Our Candles

We create and hand-pour all of our candles in small batches locally in Charleston, SC. Each scent we choose for our candles represents a historic or significant part of Lowcountry culture. Charleston has been voted time and time again as one of the top destinations in the world, and we want to share a bit of this magical city with you.

All of our candles are made with all natural soy wax. Our soy wax is produced from US grown soybeans and create clean burning, eco-friendly candles that contain no toxins, carcinogens, or pollutants. Soy candles also last longer than typical paraffin wax candles. We also use eco-friendly candle wicks made from natural cotton and paper threads that are lead and zinc free.

Who We Are

Charleston Candle Co. was started by owner, Kristen Schwiers in 2016. While running another Charleston based shop on Etsy (Magnolia Ridge Charleston), Kristen came up with the idea to create candles based on the different landmarks and historical places in and around Charleston, SC. There are so many iconic places in the lowcountry, and in Charleston in particular, so what better way to capture that essence but through soy candles? Scents were thought up and matched with places such as the Pineapple Fountain located at Waterfront Park, local beaches like Folly and Sullivan's Island, and the things that make Charleston unique including Spanish moss and sweetgrass baskets. The idea was to bring a bit of Charleston into everyone's home, whether in Charleston or for those who just love to be there.

Kristen moved to Charleston, SC almost four years ago, and while not a native to the lowcountry, Charleston has truly felt like home. When not making and creating candles, Kristen is usually enjoying time with her husband, Chaz, and chocolate lab, Finn. Together they enjoy going to the beach, seeing the sites around Charleston, and working on their local marketing company, Shark Finn Marketing.

Our team consists of candle maker and owner, Kristen Schwiers; with Chaz Schwiers and Kara Bailey assisting with logistics, photography, and events.
